Woke up this morning
looked through the dusty glass
slow old crow flew over my house
& I think he was carryin’ my ass

Yeah, it’s gonna be a bad one
It’s gonna be bad, I can tell
Gonna be hot, gonna be some sweat
you know, it just might just be hell

You slush on out into the over-growth
your mind don’t need no chart
you have to ride with the windows down
cause that a-c ain’t gonna start

You think you might see your daddy
but wait, you can’t do that, he’s sick as shit
you might go talk to your brother but
it might not be worth his fits

You could drive out of town
up into the hills and hammer
your nice new tent down on the ground
but what difference would it make, buddy?
Everybody’s goin’ down . . .

[instrumental]

Later in the day when the cats curl up
and the heat tries to subside
I wish it wasn’t true
and I hate to tell it to you
but I barely feel like trying
I really barely feel like trying
even to sing these blues . . . .
